Are you getting enough fibre?

We talk A LOT about protein, calories and hitting our macros… but there’s one thing that often gets completely forgotten: fibre.

And honestly, most of us could do with more of it.

The UK recommendation for adults is 30g of fibre a day, but the latest National Diet and Nutrition Survey found that only 4% of adults are actually hitting that target. That means a whopping 96% of adults aren't getting enough fibre.

So why does fibre matter?

🌱 It supports your digestion and helps keep your bowel movements regular.

❤️ It's linked with better long-term health, including a lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer.

🥗 It can help you feel fuller for longer, which can be really useful if you're trying to manage your appetite.

🦠 It feeds the good bacteria in your gut, helping support a healthy gut environment.

And getting more doesn't have to mean completely changing your diet.

Try adding a few simple things throughout the day:

• Swap to wholegrain bread, pasta or rice

• Add beans, lentils or chickpeas to meals

• Have a piece of fruit for a snack

• Add vegetables to your lunch and dinner

• Choose oats or a higher-fibre breakfast cereal

• Include nuts and seeds where they fit your diet

You don't need to suddenly go from 10g to 30g overnight either. Build it up gradually and make sure you're drinking enough fluids, as a sudden increase can cause bloating and digestive discomfort.

So next time you're looking at your food diary, don't just ask "Did I hit my protein?"

Ask yourself:

"Did I get enough fibre today?"

Because your body needs more than just protein to perform, recover and stay healthy. 💪🌱
